Herring Girl

Herring Girl is a tribute to the women who worked in the herring fishing industry, who traveled the east coast of the UK following the herring and knitted in their free time, perhaps even "inventing" the Gansey sweater. This is a comfortable, modern sleeveless sweater with some typical Gansey details. Worked top down with generous positive ease (about 22 cm / 8.75"). Length can be adjusted in the straight stockinette section. Structured stitch patterns (knit, purl and simple cables) are given as charts only, so you should be able to read a knitting chart. Links to video tutorials are included for special techniques. Sizes (bust): S 83.5 (M 94, L 104, XL 114), 2XL 124.5, 3XL 134.5, 4XL 144.5 cm. Choose the smaller size if between sizes. Yarn: Julie Asselin Journey Sport, 5/5/6/7/8 skeins. Needles: 3 mm (US 2.5) circular, 40, 80 and 100 cm. Gauge: 24 sts / 34 rounds = 10 cm in stockinette (in the round).
