Buddy Hat and Cowl

Buddy is a good companion for colder days: a cozy, uncomplicated hat with a matching cowl. Most of it is worked in purled stitches, with simple double wrapped stitches, slipped stitches and 2 stitch cables. Knit it in one color with one strand of sport yarn, or hold 2 strands of fingering weight in different colors. The pattern includes instructions for both the hat and the cowl, so you can make either one. Yarn suggestions: Drops Alpaca (sport, 183 yds / 50 g), one strand: hat 1 (1, 1, 2, 2) skeins, cowl 1 (1, 2) skeins. Or Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles (fingering, 400 yds / 100 g), 2 strands held together. Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 10 cm / 4" in stockinette. Needles: US 3 (3.25 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm).
